Your content is yours - and that’s more empowering than ever

At Craft, “your content is yours” has never been just a slogan. It’s a principle we build on, year after year. We believe your productivity thrives when you truly own your content and have the freedom to use it wherever it serves you best.

We've designed Craft to be your home, welcoming, but never limiting. And we’re carrying that philosophy forward into everything we build.

Today, we’re elevating that to a whole new level. We’re introducing a new AI layer to Craft, along with API and MCP support. These improvements let your content flow seamlessly - both inside Craft, and outside - wherever you need it. And we’re doing this in a way that keeps you in full control of how and where your information is used.

Four years ago, I shared our stance on data ownership. You can read the whole manifesto here: https://www.craft.do/blog/your-data-is-yours. Today, we are able to not just reaffirm that commitment, but elevate it to a whole new level.

With the penetration of AI across our tools, your information and the context around it are more important than ever. Natural language is becoming the dominant way of communicating with computers and software. Computers can do meaningful work for you – but only if they have access to the right information. Understanding what is used, and how, is the foundation of trust and efficiency.

Most companies and businesses realize this – and are pulling up walls between your information and the world around it, locking you in their systems and forcing you to use their solutions. Data is a stronger moat than ever – and many leverage this.

For Craft, building the best product for our users has always been what mattered the most. It is the only moat we ever want to have. We see the ability to move your content across your tools as both your basic right, and as a way to supercharge you and your creativity.

Building the best product also meant giving you the appropriate tools and structures that allow you to make Craft yours – be that folders, documents, pages, or collections – so you can organize your space the way it makes most sense for you. Human first versus systems first is one of our strongest guiding principles.

But being adamant on the human aspect meant we had to make tradeoffs. Traditional automations and integrations demand rigidly structured data – they stumble over the same flexible formats that any human grasps in seconds. You could describe exactly what you wanted (“find all my notes about that project from spring”), but the tools could not deliver it unless you had meticulously tagged and categorized everything first. The gap between “I can easily describe what I want” and “being able to actually do that” was frustratingly wide.

The new wave of AI finally changes that – there are no more tradeoffs. The Craft Assistant – and other tools such as ChatGPT and Claude – can now understand your content and its context the way a human could. It is now possible to design workflows and get answers to questions described in plain text. “I wrote around a year ago about concept X, what was that?” or “What tasks do I need to finish today for Project Y?” is possible, and works flawlessly.

This means you have practical and easy ways to access and query your Craft content. Regardless of how you structured it – it just works.

Everything you have in Craft is now one question away.

But that is just one part of the equation. Often you will need to work with your Craft content from outside Craft – either to add or to retrieve information. This year we have added integrations, Email to Craft, and a Web Clipper – and now you can take this to a whole new level with APIs and MCP (Model Context Protocol).

These new capabilities allow you to chat with your documents from your favorite AI tools, outside of Craft. You can enrich the context of a conversation with your docs – or save thoughts and responses directly from the chat just by saying “Save this to Craft”.

Publishing and interacting are no longer limited to Craft interfaces – you can build your own websites and mini apps, with your own design – whether that is a personal blog, a presentation, or anything you can imagine.

Your content and your knowledge in Craft are yours – and you now have unprecedented control over how you can put it to work with appropriate scopes and security. Whether that is providing context to your agents, enriching chats, or powering applications.

Let’s talk about AI pricing

This type of intelligence comes with a cost. And as magical as these capabilities are, not everyone wants or will use them equally.

Here is what we know from talking with you: every Craft user is different. Some of you will use AI extensively because the value is enormous. For others, it is neither important nor desirable. Maybe you only need AI occasionally, or you would prefer to use your existing ChatGPT or Claude subscription rather than pay twice.

We want to make sure all of you can continue to use Craft the way you want to use it.

This means we are not changing prices, and not locking AI behind another pricing tier. Every subscribed user will receive AI credits with their subscription, and we will provide flat-fee top-ups, so you are in control of when and how much you want to spend.

If you do not want to buy AI credits in Craft but still want to use AI, you can connect your Craft knowledge to Claude, ChatGPT, or any other AI tool that supports MCP, leveraging your existing subscription. We are not an AI factory incentivized to push you to use more tokens – as long as Craft meets your needs, we are delighted to have you onboard.

Bottom line: your data and your content are yours – and you decide how (or whether) to use AI with them.

Looking ahead

This year has been transformative, with major improvements across Craft – and we have much more planned for the year ahead. We will continue refining what makes Craft special: the editing and writing experience, tasks, collections, and all the core features you rely on daily.

Custom workflows, no code required

Beyond core improvements, we are building AI-powered capabilities that will let you shape Craft around your unique needs – just by describing what you want in plain language. Imagine writing: “Every Monday morning, collect all my incomplete tasks from the previous week and create a summary in my weekly review document” – and it simply works.

These custom workflows will run in the background on schedules or triggers, connecting to the internet and other apps. We will share much more about this soon.

Being the hub for your personal and professional information is a privilege we do not take lightly. We will continue to stay true to our core principles – delivering a stellar core experience while extending your ability to customize Craft and use your content however you want.

Four years ago, we said your data is yours. Today, that is not just a principle – it is practical power in your hands. And it is only getting stronger.
